West Indies goes to super 8 beat Zimbabwe

Chasing 203 for a victory, West Indies beat Zimbabwe by six wickets in the Group D encounter at Jamaica on Monday to storm into Super Eights.

Skipper Brian Lara, with an unbeaten 44, was the top scorer for West Indies, and Dwayne Bravo, who remained not out on 37, set up the pace towards the end to take West Indies home with 2.1 overs to spare.

Earlier, Zimbabwe posted 202 for five in 50 overs, thanks to a vital anchoring knock by Sean Williams, who remained unbeaten on 70, steered his side to a respectable total after the initial upheaval and he was well supported by Elton Chigumbura who finished at 30 not out.

India beat Bermuda

India beat Bermuda by a record margin of 257 runs in their Group B match at Trinidad on Monday. Chasing 414, Bermuda was bowled out for 156 in 43.1 overs. Ajit Agarkar and Anil Kumble took three wickets each. Earlier, Indian batsmen plundered 413 for the loss of five wickets. This is the the highest total ever in World Cup history and betters the 398 that Sri Lanka hit against Kenya at Kandy in 1996.

Virender Sehwag played an imperious knock to bring up a one-day hundred after a gap of almost three years. He was adjudged the Man of the Match.
