Srilanka won and a thrilling Tie

Debutantes Bermuda was annihilated by Sri Lanka as they lost the Group B tie by 243 runs at Port of Spain, Trinidad on Thursday. Chasing an improbable 322, Bermuda was bowled out for 78 runs in 24.4 overs. Farveez Maharoof picked up four wickets, while Lasith Malinga scalped three and Muttiah Muralitharan took two. Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene was adjudged Man of the Match for his knock of 85

The Group D encounter between Zimbabwe and debutantes Ireland ended in a thrilling draw at Sabina Park, Jamaica on Thursday. Chasing a victory target of 222, Zimbabwe was bowled out for 221 on the last ball of the innings. This is the third tie in a World Cup. Stuart Matsikeneyri, who remained unbeaten on 73, failed to connect with the last ball after having taken his team to the brink of victory as wickets fell like pins at the other end. No 11 Ed Rainsford was run out and Ireland made a memorable debut at the World Cup.
