West Indies win opener by 54 runs


Hosts West Indies made a winning start in the 2007 Cricket World Cup beating Pakistan by 54 runs in the opener at Sabina Park, Jamaica on Tuesday. Chasing 242 to win, Pakistan were bundled out for 187 runs in 47.2 overs. Dwayne Smith and Dwayne Bravo were the pick of the West Indian bowlers, taking three wickets each. Smith also made a valuable contribution with the bat as he scored 36 runs from just 15 balls at the end of the West Indies innings. Smith was adjudged Man of the match for his effort.
